这是由一篇博士论文改编而成的学术专著，全书以英文的形式呈现。本研究以细致的文本分析为基点，以探讨母女关系和为母之道的代表性女性主义理论为参照系，对比分析白人中心的主流女性主义话语与美国华裔妇女及其有色人种姐妹的立场异同，从而肯定华裔妇女文学在表现母女关系主题上的独特角度。在运用女性主义方法论的同时，本书也借助前沿的后殖民主义理论，强调性别、种族和阶级等范畴的密切关联，希望能揭示出美国华裔母系文学如何发声以证自身存在的途径和方式。本书横跨美国少数族裔文学研究和妇女文学研究两个领域，兼具文学研究和文化研究的特点。

石平萍,1974年生，湖南涟源人。1995年毕业于解放军外国语学院英语系，同年被保送为该院英语语言文学专业英美文学方向硕士研究生，1998年获硕士学位，同年考取北京外国语大学英语语言文学专业美国文学方向博士生，师从吴冰教授，2003年获博士学位，2O04年成为解放军外国语学院外国语言文学博士后流动站研究人员。现任教于解放军外国语学院英语系。已发表论文10余篇，出版译著6部，参编教材7部，参与国家社会科学基金项目1项、解放军外国语学院2110工程专著教材项目1项，承担河南省社会科学规划项目1项。本书获2002年解放军外国语学院学术专著资助。
